Mickey Ears For Your Elf On The Shelf

We love all things Disney and have visited Disneyland when our girls were little (all the way from Australia), we still have their Minnie Mouse ears from that trip.

This year I had something extra special brewing for a family Christmas present, so I wanted to give our daily visits some Disney magic, with each day a Disney Elf on the Shelf theme.

And how can you possibly resist these tiny Mickey Ears? So if you’re ready to get crafty with some special holiday touches, let’s talk about how to make Elf on the Shelf Mickey ears and Minnie ears for your Disney-themed Elf on the Shelf!

I made 3 different sets of Disney ears for our elf. Yes, he is a boy elf but the kids will think it’s hilarious when he’s wearing Minnie ears since he often wears their Barbie clothes!

How To Make Elf On The Shelf Mickey Ears

This is easily one of the most quickest and cheapest DIY Elf On The Shelf props you can make. In fact, there’s a pretty good chance you might even have what you need at home already if you do enjoy getting creative.

What You Will Need

What you need to make elf on the shelf disney ears

To make your Disney Elf ears you will need the following materials and tools:

  • Black felt – You could also substitute this for another type of thick, stiff black fabric or even use cardstock, however, the felt is easy to work with and holds its shape well!
  • Craft or florist wire – Any thin gauge wire will work well for this project.
  • Hot glue gun & glue – Alternatively, you can stitch your ears into place.
  • Mini bows – Not essential, but if you want Minnie Mouse ears, little bows are a cute accessory and you can either get some premade bows or make your own little bow from a ribbon.
  • Scissors – For cutting your felt shapes.
  • Wire cutters – For cutting the wire (I actually used my scissors as it was only thin but be careful not to damage your scissors doing this).

Instructions For Elf-Sized Minnie & Mickey Ears

Here is how to make your own sets of Minnie Mouse and Mickey Mouse ears for your elf or other toys:

STEP ONE – Fold your black felt over and cut a circle shape on the folded edge. This will create a double circle shape that is joined in the middle.

STEP TWO – Cut your wire to size using your elf to measure.

STEP THREE – Work out the spacing you need for your ears and place the wire across the centre of each, using a hot glue gun to secure the ears in place once folded.

STEP FOUR – If using bows, secure a bow in the centre of the ears using your hot glue.

STEP FIVE – Once the glue is dry, wrap the wire around your elf’s head and secure the wire at the back. You can cut off any excess wire.
