If you’re looking for Christmas treats that are easy to make and a guaranteed crowd-pleaser for the holiday season, this white chocolate Christmas Crack is an absolute must-try! Just as the name suggests, Christmas toffee crack is downright addictive in the best kind of way!

We have been making Christmas crack for several years now, and it’s always the favourite treat recipe each December, alongside my rum balls.
We have always made it with dark chocolate, though. And this tastes great, but when I tried a white chocolate Easter crack earlier this year, it was just so good that we had to try a white chocolate Christmas crack version, too!
The best thing about Christmas cracker candy is that it only requires 5 main ingredients – brown sugar, butter, crackers, chocolate and some decorations to suit the season.
The best bit is that you can whip up a batch in around 1 hour!
Christmas crack is a fun sweet treat for your Christmas celebrations. Plus, it also makes a perfect edible gift too. Just pop it in some cellophane bags, ready to gift.
While this Christmas crack is made with white chocolate, you can also make it using milk chocolate, dark chocolate or even a flavoured chocolate like Caramilk.

What is Christmas Crack?
The name doesn’t entirely tell you what Christmas crack is, but once you try it, you will get it!
This is such an addictive Christmas dessert and is always a hit!
The thing that makes it so addictive is the toffee base, so you will often hear it referred to as cracker toffee. Pair the toffee with the crunch of the crackers and the white chocolate topping, and you’ve got a combination of sweet and salty that is just perfect!

White Chocolate Christmas Crack Ingredients
Here’s what you need to make Christmas toffee crack:
- 8 Arnott’s Salada Originals (*see note below)
- 2 x 170g blocks white chocolate
- 125g butter, chopped
- 1 cup brown sugar
- Christmas M&Ms
- Sprinkles & other decorations of your choice
What Is A Salada Cracker? As an Aussie, this recipe is typically made using Salada crackers. These are great because they are crispbread crackers with a sprinkle of salt.
They come in a box of around 16 crackers, so you have enough to make 2 batches from a single box (or use the leftovers and slap on some Vegemite and butter for a truly Aussie snack)
If you don’t live in Australia or NZ, a popular alternative is Saltine Crackers.

How to Make Christmas Toffee Crack
Step 1: Preparation
Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celcius (350F) and line a baking tray with baking paper. Place Salada crackers onto the prepared tray in a single layer.

Step 2: Make Your Toffee
Add your butter and brown sugar to a small saucepan over medium heat. Stir and combine until the butter is melted and the mixture begins to boil. Allow it to thicken for around 30 seconds.

Step 3: Prepare The Base
Pour the toffee mixture over the Salada crackers, using the back of a spoon to spread the mixture across the entire surface. Place the tray into the preheated oven for 5 minutes.

Step 4: Add Toppings
Remove the tray from the oven and place your chocolate blocks on top. They should start to melt fairly quickly. Use the back of a spoon to spread the white chocolate across the entire surface of your crackers. While still melted, sprinkle mini eggs, sprinkles and any other decorations you want onto the chocolate. Place it in the refrigerator to set.

Step 5: Crack It
Once fully set, remove from the refrigerator and break your Christmas crack into smaller pieces, ready to eat! Use a knife if needed.

Recipe Substitutions
Here are some ingredient substitutions to try so you can adapt this recipe to suit the ingredients you have on hand or your preferences:
- Salada Originals: Use other types of crackers such as Saltine crackers, soda crackers,, Ritz crackers, water crackers, or I’ve ever seen people make a crack variation using pretzels or cereal for a base.
- White Chocolate: If you aren’t so fond of white chocolate, you can use any other type of chocolate instead, such as dark, milk, caramel or flavoured chocolate. You can also use white chocolate melts instead of blocks.
- M&Ms: Swap out the M&Ms for other seasonal candy, mix in pretzels for extra salty crunch.
How To Store Christmas Crack

Your Christmas crack with white chocolate can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for around 2 weeks. You can also freeze it for up to 2 months in an airtight container or ziplock bags.
Tip: Make your Christmas crack early in December and freeze it! I always do this, so it’s ready well before Christmas and not another last-minute prep task!
Tips For Making Christmas Cracker Candy
Like any recipe, there are a few things you can do to make sure your Christmas cracker toffee turns out great the first time.
- Use a tray with edges, as the toffee will make a mess otherwise. You want to keep it contained!
- Make sure to use proper baking parchment paper and not an alternative such as aluminium foil; otherwise, your toffee will likely stick to the paper (and this is not fun to remove).
- Let it set fully before attempting to break apart your crack.
