How To Make Mint Slice Reindeer Balls

This Christmas treat recipe will make around 16-20 mint slice balls, depending on the size you roll them. If you’re planning for a larger gathering or gifting these as holiday treats, you can easily double the ingredients to make a bigger batch.

They are so quick and simple to make! You can have a batch ready in about 2 hours (and most of that is chilling time).

This is also a fantastic recipe to make with the kids. They’ll love helping mix the ingredients, rolling the balls, and decorating each one with reindeer faces for that festive touch!

how to make reindeer mint slice balls.

STEP ONE – Use a food processor to crush the Mint Slice biscuits into a crumb mix. Add to a medium sized bowl and mix in softened cream cheese until well combined.

STEP TWO – Roll mixture into balls and place on a baking paper-lined tray. Place in freezer for half an hour to firm.

STEP THREE – Melt chocolate in 30 second intervals in the microwave, stirring each time until completely melted.

STEP FOUR – Dip Mint Slice balls into chocolate until covered and place on the tray. You can use a fork or skewer to do this or roll with spoons.

STEP FIVE – Use pretzels, candy eyes and red candies to make reindeer features. Place back in freezer for 1 hour or until completely set.

If the chocolate is drying to quickly for the candy nose and eyes to stick, use a little melted chocolate on the back to stick them on.

This mint slice ball recipe also works with dark chocolate if you prefer a richer flavour.

Mint Slice Substitutes

If you can’t find Mint Slice biscuits or want to try something different, there are plenty of great substitutes that will still give your reindeer balls that delicious minty-chocolate flavor. Here are some ideas:

  • Thin Mints: Popular in some regions, these mint-flavored chocolate biscuits work perfectly in place of Mint Slices.
  • Peppermint Oreos: A fun option with a creamy mint center that blends well with chocolate.
  • Chocolate Biscuits + Peppermint Essence: Use any plain chocolate biscuit and add a few drops of peppermint essence for the minty flavor.

Reindeer Mint Slice Balls

Yield: 16
Prep Time: 20 minutes
Additional Time: 1 hour 30 minutes
Total Time: 1 hour 50 minutes

Easy, no-bake Christmas reindeer mint slice balls made with cream cheese and Mint Slice biscuits, topped with pretzels and candy to transform them into reindeer.

Ingredients

  • 125g softened cream cheese
  • 200g Arnott's Mint Slice biscuits or substitute
  • 150g milk chocolate
  • Pretzels
  • Red M&Ms
  • Candy eyes
  • 1 tbs coconut oil (optional)

Instructions

  1. Use a food processor to crush Mint Slice until it resembles fine crumbs.
  2. Add softened cream cheese and mix well.
  3. Roll mixture into balls and place on a tray lined with baking paper. Place in the freezer for 30 minutes to harden.
  4. Break pretzels into 'antlers'. Melt chocolate with optional coconut oil in the microwave in 30-second bursts, stirring each time until smooth.
  5. Dip each mint slice ball into the chocolate using a spoon or skewer and place back onto the lined tray.
  6. Insert pretzels into the top and place 2 eyes and an M&M red nose onto each ball. If the chocolate has hardened already, stick on the candies with a little melted chocolate.
  7. Place back in the freezer for 1 hour (or 2 hours in the fridge) to set.
  8. Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days.

Notes

Mint Slice Substitutes - Mint Slice is a popular Australian biscuit from Arnott's with mint cream, a biscuit and covered in dark chocolate. Any similar mint biscuit can be used as a substitute.

Chilling the Mixture - By freezing the balls before coating in chocolate, they will hold their shape better. You can do this in the fridge or freezer.

Coconut Oil - Adding a small amount of coconut oil to your melted chocolate will make your chocolate set smoother. This isn't essential but it does make it easier.

Storage - You can store your Reindeer Mint Slice balls in the refrigerator for up to 5 days in an airtight container or in the freezer for up to a month.
