SML March Challenge – Declutter Main Bedroom

The bedroom is the sanctuary of the house but sometimes it ends up more chaos than sanctuary, with an accumulation of clutter and mess. This is hardly ideal as we all need our sanctuary to get that much needed beauty sleep… that somewhere we can relax and recharge. This month we are set to declutter the main bedroom and creating a space we look forward to spending our slumber time.

SIMPLIFY MY LIFE DECLUTTER MAIN BEDROOM

If you have small children, particularly babies and toddlers, you may find you end up with random child related paraphernalia in your bedroom. Toys, kids clothes, nappies and who knows what else. But even without kids, there clothes strewn across the floor, jewellery and accessories across the surfaces and other items that just end up there at the end of a long day (at least they do in my bedroom).

Having a bedroom clear of clutter helps us clear the mind as bed time arrives. Not having to dodge clutter makes a big difference. It is also a massive time saver having your clothing and accessories exactly where they should be, completely organised and uncluttered.

Decluttering My Life

So to get you started on the main bedroom declutter, download the free printable checklist below:

Main Bedroom & Wardrobe Declutter Checklist

This month’s checklist is split into two sections – the bedroom and the wardrobe since both are equally large jobs.

Don’t be worrying about the other bedrooms in the house just yet. One guess what happens next month though ;)

Some quick bedroom declutter tips:

  • Treat your bedroom like the sanctuary it is.
  • Don’t get into the habit of dumping stuff in your bedroom at the end of the day.
  • Make a habit each day or at least once a week of putting stuff that doesn’t belong away.
  • Have your closet organised and put things away straight away.
  • Minimise the amount of decorational and unnecessary furniture items in the bedroom – simple is best.
  • Regularly sort clothing and get rid of items you no longer need.

  1. Holly – this is really helpful. I made an attempt to clean up the clutter and I have made a good start but need some help making it a sanctuary. I want to make a place I like going to, not somewhere that evokes more guilt. Thanks for the help. Mel xx

    1. Love your comment Mel because I bet many of us feel exactly the same way. I’m still a little way from finishing my own bedroom but what I have in mind is some really nice new bedding to replace our existing sets, plus finally hanging a photo frame with family pics above the bed. Simple but I’m hoping it helps make the room feel more welcoming.

  2. Great tips here Holly. Luckily my bedroom and walk in robe are pretty tidy areas, although I do need to go through our clothes and get rid of anything that is no longer needed – I’m planning to wait until after bubs is born though as right now I’m only able to fit into a few things!! At some stage we plan to totally refit out the WIR to make better use of the space, so I’m really looking forward to that!

    1. You must be one of those rare people who keep that area neat lol I think you might enjoy my special post coming up mid month. And I know what you mean trying to sort clothes while preggers. I was super strict though so pretty proud of my efforts ;)

    1. Thanks Angela. Next month is the kids room so there will be another checklist to tackle that extra fun space ;) but most of the main bedroom is relevant at least to get it done. I have to transform my space room into a second kids room in the next month. Yikes!
