home appliances to save time

Home Appliances That Will Make Your Life Easier

Modern life operates at a frantic pace. Between work and family, there’s little time to do the things you love, so why should precious moments be spent doing household chores? From appliances that take the legwork out of cooking to others that remove the drudgery of cleaning, if you’re looking to take the hassle out of housework, here are five home appliances that will make your life easier, which is perfect when you are aiming to simplify your life.

Clothes dryer

Waiting on the weather to do your laundry is a thing of the past, but not all clothes dryers are the same. If you’re in the market to take a little effort out of laundry, then a tumble dryer might be top priority, particularly for those with young children or if you live in a humid or damp climate.

When looking for a dryer, there are a number of things to consider, the first being energy consumption. New technology means high electricity costs for using a dryer are a thing of the past, courtesy of innovative appliance companies. Innovations such as heat pump technology make their dryers some of the most efficient available, meaning you have the convenience of drying your clothes when you choose at a fraction of the traditional price.

Other items to consider when selecting a dryer include sensor technology so the dryer shuts off when your clothes are dry, and different settings for different types of laundry.

Dishwasher

Gone are the days when dishpan hands were the badge of honour of the diligent homemaker. A dishwasher is a must-have in any modern kitchen, keeping your kitchen free from clutter and free from the hassle of washing up.

Again, energy efficiency should be a priority along with new technology that ensures you don’t have to double handle your dishes by pre-rinsing. Also ensure your dishwasher is large enough to accommodate your plates, as rack height and set-up can vary. As a household of two before kids, we made the decision to purchase a 2 drawer dishwasher due to rarely having a full load otherwise. This is yet another way to save energy if you have a small household, as it gives the ability to run one drawer at a time.

A good oven

Great cooking equipment shouldn’t be the sacred ground of professional chefs, and all ovens were definitely not created equal. A good oven can take time and effort out of cooking and even the cleaning process.

Things to look for include space that ensures baking trays can be easily accommodated and the height between racks can be easily altered. Depending on your cooking skills, you may also require additional features for different cooking styles, such as rotisserie cooking, and extras such as meat probes. Quick pre-heating is a huge asset, as is any feature that cuts down cleaning time, such as the newer pyrolytic oven technology, which essentially self cleans with a little help from you.

Microwave

No longer just an appliance to reheat your meals, the humble microwave can now prepare entire meals on your behalf. Leading brands have automatic features where you select a pre-programmed dish, enter the weight of the meal and the microwave takes the cooking from there. And to help save you even more time, while being environmentally friendly, find out how to clean your microwave using natural ingredients.

Good appliances aren’t just gadgets designed to have you “Keeping up with the Joneses”. Carefully selected appliances can successfully save you time, effort and cut down on cleaning. It’s just about finding the appliance to suit your needs.

What appliance in your home could you not live without? Does it have any special features to save you time?

We recently had dishwasher issues and I was back to the good old handwashing for over a month and it drove me crazy! It takes so much time and space, and I love to cook so I felt like I was constantly chained to the sink.

    1. Oh no, that would have been painful. Amazing how we come to rely on our home conveniences though hehe such time savers.

  2. I think the only appliances that we could live without would be the dishwasher and dryer. Although, I would rather not live without those :-)

The home appliance that I can’t live without is the dishwasher and clothes dryer. These things help me a lot to save time and do the other household chores. Thank you Holly!

    1. Time savers are a must! I rarely use my dryer but we live in a hot climate so usually can avoid it but no dishwasher would be the worst!

  4. Dishwasher is a huge convenience for me. Besides, it actually use less water than washing dishes by hand and water is hot enough to sterilize everything you put in it.

  5. I’ve been dreaming to buy a new oven for our kitchen. I am really into baking and I want a bigger one so bad. Hope I can buy one sooner.

    1. One of those really large ovens would be so convenient. Imagine fitting 4 trays in instead of just 2 when baking. Huge time saver.

Awesome article Holly! I bought a clothes dryer last month and I can say that it really made a big help to my daily routine task.

  7. I don’t own a microwave because I don’t think they’re a healthy choice. I do agree with the other items on your list though especially with dishwashers. May wife and I have three young kids and our dishwasher has definitely helped in making our lives easier!

  9. Air dryers are really good, they don’t take up too much space and they use a fraction of the energy as a traditional dryer. The only thing is that it can be a bit of a hassle hanging all the clothes up inside them, and they do make a bit of a noise. They’re useful in small homes/appartments where there’s no room for a dryer though.
